Aurelia
High School
Aurelia G. wanted to attend a school that provides a safe environment and well-structured program. She found them both at our school. According to Aurelia, “I have extremely high anxiety and depression and felt uneasy at my [brick-and-mortar] school. … By being home and attending Great Lakes Learning Academy, I’ve finally been able to have the life I wanted.”
Feeling Welcomed and Included
“I have teachers who are very helpful, and this curriculum is well-structured. … I have a good relationship with my teachers. I definitely feel I could go to them if I ever needed anything, whether it's about school or something personal.”
Aurelia’s favorite subjects are history and biology. “I love history because it’s so interesting. Biology is also my favorite because I want to do stuff with biology when I get older. … My most memorable experience so far at this school was when I traveled downstate during the fall and got to meet a lot of the teachers and kids. I felt really welcome and included.”

Planning for the Future
“I own and ride horses. I also show horses with my horse trainer. … This school gives me the freedom to work with my horse, whose name is Oscar. I was so lucky to meet him since he has disabilities just like me. We bonded over our hard lives, and he'’ just the best boy ever!
“I’m also passionate about being a nurse, specifically a mother/baby nurse. … After I graduate from Great Lakes Learning Academy, I plan to go to school to become a mother/baby nurse … then get some schooling on horse boarding, training, and breeding.
“Once I’m done with mother/baby nursing school, I’ll start working at The Children’s Hospital while I finish school for my horse stuff. I am hoping to get my name out there in the horse world.”
“I love Great Lakes Learning Academy because everyone is very welcoming and only wants the best for you."
